New Bark Town

New Bark TownNew Bark Town
Home to Kris, Ethan and Lyra. New Bark Town is a small town in the South-east of Johto and home to the Pokémon Laboratory for this Region. The Town is very self-sufficient and located in an accessible but safe environment, perfect for bringing up children in.

Lyra's House

Home to Lyra before she began her Journey, her doting mother still lives here and minds the house, often sending her daughter useful items she found while shopping. Lyra does not often visit home, so it would be unusual to see her here.

Ethan's House

Ethan also lived in New Bark Town before beginning his Journey. His house is located alongside the lab where his father Professor Elm works. Although Ethan does not live here any more, his mother, father and younger brother continue to do so.

Professor Elm's lab

The central lab of Johto. Professor Elm relocated here after his son was born to ensure he could grow up in a safe environment. It does however mean that visiting scientists often have to travel quite some way to reach him. Professor Elm specializing in studying Pokémon eggs and the bonds between humans and their Pokémon. Kris works here as Professor Elm's lab assistant.

Cherrygrove City

Cherrygrove CityCherrygrove City
A small fishing city that opens up onto the sea. Many people from New Bark Town will travel here to do their shopping, however with the exception of the Pokémart and the docks there is very little here.

Violet City

Violet CityViolet City
An old town standing at the foot of Bellsprout Tower. For trainers travelling from New Bark Town this will be the first place they reach with a Gym. There is a lot to see in the City, particularly for those who appreciate Johto culture.

Violet Academy

An elite school in Johto that students must pass an entrance exam to enter. It is tied with schools across the other Regions. Students that graduate from these schools will often be accepted into impressive Universities.

Sprout Tower

The large tower in the northern part of the town is a tall and wobbling pagoda, run by Sages who train Pokémon, all the while teaching people that all living beings coexist through cooperation. These monks mostly train Bellsprout, although occasionally use Hoothoot. As Trainers battle, the flexible pagoda shakes from side to side; this flexibility protects the tall tower from earthquakes.

Violet City Gym

The Violet Gym is the official Gym of Violet City. It is based on Flying-type Pokémon. The Gym Leader is Falkner. Trainers who defeat him receive the Zephyr Badge. For trainers coming from New Bark Town this will often be the first Gym battle they face.

Ruins of Alph

The Ruins of Alph are located in Johto, with entrances to the south and west of Violet City. The ruins are filled with Unown once any one of four slide puzzles inside the chambers have been activated. The name may come from the first four letters of "alphabet," which the Unown inside represent.

Azalea Town

Azalea TownAzalea Town
Azalea Town is a small, isolated town located on the southern peninsula of the Johto region. The town is best known for being the residence of Kurt, a custom Poké Ball creator who makes Poké Balls out of Apricorns. He lives in the northwest portion of town on the east edge of Ilex Forest. Azalea features other notable locations as well, such as the Slowpoke Well, and as such, Slowpoke can be found around the town.

Azalea Gym

The Azalea Gym is located on the southwestern side of the town. It is where Bugsy, a trainer who specializes in bug Pokémon, hands out the Hive Badge to Trainers that beat him.

Slowpoke Well

The Slowpoke Well is a large underground well that Azalea's Slowpoke live and drink. Slowpoke may not be considered to be an important Pokémon outside of Azalea, but in this small southern Johto town, Slowpoke are placed in high regard and are revered by the community. According to legends in the town, the Yawn of a Slowpoke causes rain. 400 years ago, a drought in Azalea Town ended right when a Slowpoke yawned.

The forest's trees are so close together that all light is blocked out, and the forest seems to be in a perpetual night. There is a Shrine for the guardian of the forest, Celebi.

Goldenrod City

Goldenrod CityGoldenrod City
Goldenrod City is a sprawling metropolis located in western Johto. It is the the capital of the region, and the fifth largest city in the Pokémon world. Goldenrod is the centre of the region's economy and telecommunications. Major attractions for Trainers include the Goldenrod Radio Tower, the city's Department Store, Game Corner, Name Rater, and Magnet Train that ties Kanto and Johto together.

The main distributors of bikes in Johto, the bikes are incredibly expensive, but will occasionally run promotional deals, similar to the bike shop in Kanto.

Goldenrod Department Store

Although it is not as big as the Department Store in Celadon, it is still the biggest in Johto, selling many specialist goods and items that can not be found in ordinary Pokémarts.

Goldenrod Game Corner

While there used to be a Casino in Goldenrod City it was closed down due to its controversial nature, being replaced instead by a Game Corner where people can still meet up to play games, however no real money is used.

Radio Tower

The Radio Tower that broadcasts across Johto is located here, along with many of the radio celebrates people have come to love. Professor Oak himself occasionally will visit here to record his own show, handing out information about Pokémon.

Magnet Train station

A gleaming high speed railway service that connects Goldenrod to Saffron City in Kanto. The journey can be made in only half an hour, and many people who have business in both Regions will take advantage of this network.

Ecruteak City

Ecruteak CityEcruteak City
Ecruteak is known as a historical and mythical city; fittingly, its buildings all feature traditional Japanese architecture, while the tallest building in the city, and perhaps all of Johto, is the ten-story Bell Tower in the city's northeast corner, built nearly a millennium ago. The city is known as being a centerpoint of the legendary Pokémon native to the Johto region, with the great Ho-Oh once being said to have roosted atop the Bell Tower, and having created three legendary beasts of the Pokémon who perished when the Brass Tower burned down.

Ecruteak Gym

The Ecruteak Gym is the official Gym of Ecruteak City. It is based on Ghost-type Pokémon. The Gym Leader is Morty. Trainers who defeat him receive the Fog Badge. Morty is a Gym Leader particularly interested in the legends and folklore of the region and will often investigate with his friend Eugine.

Burned Tower

The sad remains of this once-great tower, in the northwestern corner of the city, are all that is left after a fire engulfed it 150 years before the events of the games. It was once as majestic as the Bell Tower to the east, with the two towers representative of where Pokémon awakened and where they slept. According to some legends, Lugia once perched on this tower; however, others place Lugia as always living in the Whirl Islands. Three legendary beasts make their home in the basement of the tower, given new life after it burned down by Ho-Oh, who once perched atop the Bell Tower.

A majestic tower to the east, the Bell Tower is where Ho-Oh was once said to roost. The tower was once partnered with the Brass Tower, however since it burned down, Bell Tower now stands alone.

Olivine City

Olivine is a major port city and is the home of the Glitter Lighthouse. The Glitter Lighthouse guides ships to the harbor as well as the S.S. Aqua connecting it to the port city in its sister region, Vermilion City in Kanto.

Glitter Lighthouse

Olivine is home to the Glitter Lighthouse, illuminated by an Ampharos, aptly named Amphy. The Lighthouse is a popular tourist destination, however only the lower floors are open to the public.

Olivine Café is known to be a place for Sailors to stop after a long trip on the sea to rest and eat. Olivine Café prides itself on its generous-sized menu that is "chock-full of hearty fare for beefy Sailors". The Café consists of a bar with many stools around it and a square table surrounded by seats.

Cianwood City is located in on the far western edge of Johto, apparently on a totally different landmass than the rest of the region. Due to Cianwood City being at a dead end location in the Johto region, it was not a popular destination. Tales of Lugia and the whirlpools it creates circulate among the sailors that stop in this port town.

Cianwood City Pharmacy is a small pharmacy that is over 500 years old. The Cianwood City Pharmacy sells remedies exclusive to the town. There is however no Pokémart on the Island though.

The Cianwood Gym is the official Gym of Cianwood City. It is based on Fighting-type Pokémon, led by their Gym Leader Chuck who often trains underneath waterfalls to increase his endurance.

Souvenir Shop

It is a convenience store that sells supplies necessary for Pokémon training, run by a hard working old woman. Inside the little store are tables of random assortments of items. On the northern wall stands a giant gold cabinet. The counter is located on the western side of the shop, where the shopkeeper serves various items. There is also a calculator and a radio on the counter of the shop.

Dragon's Den

A clan of masters of Dragon-type Pokémon have lived in the city for generations. The masters built the Dragon's Den, a cavern with an underground lake that contains a shrine to Dragon Pokémon, as well as the elders of the Dragon clan. The entrance is located behind the Gym, across a small pond, while the main cavern seems to be located underneath the city itself.
